West Ham’s European run this season will continue after Christmas, as their place in the next round of the Europa Conference League is already secured. However, they will be looking to wrap up top spot on Thursday with a victory against Silkeborg.
It has been a very professional display from West Ham United so far in the Europa Conference League. They have picked up four straight wins in the competition to comfortably sit six points clear of Silkeborg coming into this penultimate fixture. In order to claim top spot, they will need just a point at the London Stadium this week.
The Hammers have scored nine goals in the four games that they have played to this point, but they will likely want to tighten up defensively after already allowing four goals. West Ham maintained their perfect start to the competition on matchday four, as they edged out Anderlecht to win 2-1 at the London Stadium. Said Benrahma scored the opening goal after 14 minutes, before Jarrod Bowen added a second before the half time break.
At present, it looks as though it will be Silkeborg joining the Hammers in the next round of the competition, as they sit second in the standings with two fixtures remaining. They have been the highest scorers in the group this season, having found the net on 12 occasions.
They have responded very well since losing their first two games in the group, as they have recorded back-to-back victories. The most recent of those victories was recorded against FCSB on matchday four, as they easily claimed a 5-0 win on the road. Sebastian Jorgensen scored twice in that win, while further goals in the success were added by Kasper Kusk, Anders Klynge and Soren Tengstedt.
The only previous competitive meeting between these sides was played on matchday two. On that occasion, West Ham ran out 3-2 winners on the road. Manuel Lanzini, Gianluca Scamacca and Craig Dawson scored the goals in the win.
The Hammers have looked incredibly strong in the Europa Conference League to this point, and we fully expect them to wrap up top spot on Thursday. We could see them claiming a 2-0 win at the London Stadium.
