West Ham will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend after losing each of their last two. They will host Sheffield United, who will be looking to recover following a mauling at the hands of Newcastle last Sunday.
West Ham had made an encouraging start to the Premier League season after going their opening four without a defeat. However, they will be looking to get back on track on Saturday after losing back-to-back matches in the league against Manchester City and Liverpool.
But, the Hammers haven’t lost three games on the bounce since the start of May. That run also included defeats against City and the Reds. West Ham have enjoyed a solid record against newly promoted sides in recent history, as they have won each of their last six after defeat against Nottingham Forest on matchday two last term. This is currently their longest winning sequence against newly promoted opposition in Premier League history.
Sheffield United were handed a brutal reminder of how challenging the Premier League can be last weekend, as they were handed a massive 8-0 home loss against Newcastle United. That was their heaviest ever defeat in the league, and a huge response will be expected by Paul Heckingbottom this weekend.
However, their chances of victory could be negatively impacted based on the performances of previous sides to have lost by an eight-goal margin in the Premier League history. Only one previous team have managed to bounce back from a heavy defeat by landing victory in their following fixture, as Wigan achieved that feat in November 2009.
Bet hereWest Ham completed the league double over the Blades in the 2020-21 season. That double ended a long poor run in this fixture, as West Ham recorded just one win in six Premier League clashes against the Blades between 1994 and 2000. Meanwhile, Sheffield United have recorded just one away win in ten attempts against the Hammers in league fixtures.
Sheffield United will need to be much tougher to break down on Saturday than they were in their previous fixture. However, their record away from home against the Hammers would once again be a concern this weekend. Therefore, we will be siding with the home side recording a straightforward success at the London Stadium.
