Bayern Munich begin their defence of the Bundesliga title on Friday, as they travel to Werder Bremen. Harry Kane is in line to make his debut for the Bundesliga champions.
A new season of action in Germany’s top flight gets underway on Friday, as the reigning champions take to the field for the first time this term. Bayern Munich will be looking for an instant response on Friday, as they were humbled by RB Leipzig in the Super Cup final on Saturday. Harry Kane came on to make his debut following his £100 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, but he was helpless in aiding his new teammates.
It was a below par effort from the Bavarians, and it will only increase the pressure on them ahead of their opening match of the season. All eyes will be on Kane, as the England captain will make his competitive debut for his new club. The former Spurs striker will be responsible for filling the void left by Robert Lewandowski, as Bayern look to get back to the top of the European game.
Werder Bremen enjoyed a steady campaign in the Bundesliga last term, as they finished 16th in the overall standings. Much of their progress was down to the form of Niclas Fulkrug, who scored 16 goals in the German top tier. He will once again be responsible for scoring the goals to ensure that they don’t get dragged into a relegation scrap this term.
Their domestic season didn’t get off to the best start last weekend, as they were dumped out of the DFB Pokal in the first round. It was a shock win for the minnows, as they netted their winning goal in the 94th minute. However, it is worth considering that Werder played with ten men for the best part of 80 minutes.
Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 31 previous clashes against Werder. Over that period, the Bavarian giants have registered 27 wins. That includes victories in their last three. Bayern landed a 2-1 win in this exact fixture in May 2023.
All eyes will be on Kane this weekend, as he makes his Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich. We fully expect the English striker to find the back of the net on his first start, and we expect that to put Bayern on course for a 3-0 win on the road.
