The action in La Liga this weekend kicks off on Friday, as Villarreal welcome Getafe. Both Spanish sides will be aiming for a strong second half to the season, as they hope to break into the European positions. But, which team will land maximum points on Friday?
Villarreal will have home field advantage this week, as they chase a much-needed return to winning ways after playing out draws in their last two matches. Ties are becoming a recurring issue for the Spanish side, as they have played out three in their last four. However, a return to winning ways this weekend would see them move up to 12th in the standings.
There are huge questions hanging over this Villarreal side from a defensive perspective, as they have already allowed 46 goals across their league outings this term. No side located above them in the league standings have conceded more, while only Almeria and Granada have worse defensive records at this stage of the season.
Getafe are more likely to make a charge for a European position at this stage of the season, as they are just five points off the top six. They come into this match after winning two of their last four, but they have suffered one defeat over that same sequence of fixtures in the competition. However, a win on Friday could lift them up to eighth.
Getafe were in excellent form in their most recent match in the competition, as they fought back to secure a 3-2 home win against Celta Vigo. Jaime Mata was the star of the show for the home team on that occasion, as he netted twice. The other goal in the win was netted in the opening 45 minutes by Borja Mayoral.
Villarreal’s record in this fixture could be hard to overlook this week, as the home side have won seven of their last nine against Getafe. However, a second draw over that run of matches was played out earlier in the season. Getafe haven’t won away from home against Villarreal since January 2019.
This should be an entertaining fixture to kick off the La Liga weekend on Friday. We expect both teams to find the net in this match, but the slight preference is for the away team to end their long wait for a win on the road at Villarreal.
