It hasn’t been the start to the season that Unai Emery would have been hoping for, as his Villarreal side are struggling in the bottom half of the standings. They come up against a Cadiz side that have won just once this season on Tuesday night.
Unai Emery would have been hoping that his Villarreal side could have used their Europa League success last season as a starting block to mount a challenge to finish in the Champions League places in La Liga. However, their start to the new season has been very underwhelming, as they have won just three times in 12 games in all competitions.
Villarreal desperately need to go on a run of victories in the league to improve their confidence, as they have lost their last two since the international break. They suffered a second straight defeat in the league on Saturday, as they went down to a 2-1 defeat against Athletic Bilbao away from home. Francis Coquelin scored the goal to level the scores in the game, but Bilbao wrapped up a hard-fought win from the penalty spot with just over ten minutes remaining.
Cadiz haven’t fared that much better than their rivals this week, as they sit just outside the relegation places in 17th. They have won just once in the ten games that they have played in the Spanish top-flight, and are without a win in five. Cadiz have lost three of their last four, which includes back-to-back defeats.
They were beaten fairly easily in their last game against Alavez. Cadiz managed to have the majority of the ball in that game, and registered 23 shots. However, only four of those were on target. They will need to be more clinical with their chances in this fixture against Villarreal.
Cadiz are unbeaten in four matches against Villarreal. During that run, they have lost on three occasions, and have only managed to pick up one point. Villarreal picked up four points against Cadiz from the fixtures between the sides last season, winning their home game 2-1.
This could be the perfect fixture for Villarreal this week, as they look to get back to winning ways. They should get maximum points in this home fixture against a Cadiz side that are really struggling in La Liga.
