Verona vs Napoli Prediction: Serie A Match on 08.03.2020

Napoli slowly regains their confidence and positive results under Gennaro Gattuso. They have been unbeaten in all competition in the last five matches and been sitting on the sixth of the table. Lorenzo Insigne and Co need to secure more three points to be able to qualify to the European competitions after the winless run in the last games under Carlo Ancellotti and the early period of Gattuso. This weekend, they will be visiting Verona, should the fixture is not postponed due to the covid-19 threat. The host has been one of the most underrated dark horses this season.

The teams’ previous matches

Hellas Verona had another draw last weekend against Udinese, which is still struggling for the better position on the table. They were held in a goalless draw. Miguel Veloso and Co’s several shots on target were denied by Juan Musso, the Argentian goalie.

Il Partenopei won again in the previous match while hosting Torino. They thumped Il Torro 2-1. Their two defenders, Kostas Manolas and Giovanni Di Lorenzo netted the winning goals while the visitor’s side could only respond by Simone Edera’s goal.

Possible tactic

The former Genoa boss, Ivan Juric tends to employ 3-4-1-2 with the transition to 3-4-2-1. He counts on the attacking midfielders Matteo Pessina, Mattia Zaccagni plus their new signing, Fabio Borini. His pragmatic approach relying on set pieces, rumble in the box and counter-attack seems to be effective.

Their counterpart, Napoli under Gennaro Gattuso, always deploys 4-3-3 with the transition to 4-5-1 if necessary. Arkadiuz Milik is the main frontman supported by Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon or Dries Mertens and the Mexican international Hirving Lozano as the backup.

Players to watch

Verona’s impressive form this season is mainly due to the brilliance of Ivan Juric’s tactics and a number of senior key figures in the squad, who mostly are on the defense line such as Miguel Veloso, Salvatore Bocchetti and Marco Faraoni. Another notable one is the former Fiorentina and Sampdoria forward, Giampaolo Pazzini who has netted four goals.

In Napoli’s current squad, their top performers are the Polish international Arkadiusz Milik who has scored nine goals, Lorenzo Insigne with five goals and five assists, Jose Callejon the top assist provider with six assists. Another key figure of Il Partenopei is central midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

Verona vs Napoli prediction

Gattuso’s men are one of the few teams whose fixture is not affected much by the covid-19 threat. If Verona could take advantage of their better physical fitness, Ivan Juric’s men could snatch a point or even more, just like what they did against Juventus.

Betting odds

According to the punters, Napoli is still the slight favourite. Their odd to win is at 2.10 whereas the draw result is higher, which is at 3.25. Verona is projected to win at 3.60.
