Valencia will be hoping to put an extremely disappointing 2022-23 campaign behind them this term, and rise back up toward the European spots. Their first home match of the new campaign will come against Las Palmas on Friday evening.
The 2022-23 season was a nervy campaign for Valencia, as their long stay in the top-flight was nearly brought to an end. However, they recovered over the final month of the season to secure their La Liga status, and all sights will now revolve around kicking on and putting themselves back in the conversation for a European finish this term.
They got off to the best possible start on the opening weekend, as Valencia landed a 2-1 win over Sevilla last Friday. Mouctar Diakhaby opened the scoring in the contest after an hour, before the Europa League winners drew level just nine minutes later. However, Valencia stole the points on the road in the 88th minute, as Javi Guerra netted the winning goal. There will be hope that they can build on that positive opening day win.
Las Palmas will be looking to ensure their top-flight status this term after gaining a first promotion to La Liga at the end of last season since 2017-18. Their home record will probably be key to their chances of maintaining their status in the top tier, and they have brought in quality additions following the signings of Daley Sinkgraven, Cristian Herrera, and Javi Munoz.
Las Palmas made a pleasing enough return to the top flight, as they played out a home draw against Mallorca on Saturday. They opened the scoring after 29 minutes following Jonathan Viera’s penalty. However, they were pegged back by the visitors with just 20 minutes of the 90 remaining.
Each of the previous three meetings between the sides have been won by the side with home field advantage. Valencia won their previous home clash in August 2017 by a 1-0 scoreline. However, Las Palmas won the return clash in January 2018.
Valencia started the season in excellent fashion last weekend. They would have gained a lot of confidence from their win over Sevilla, and that should set them up for a strong performance this weekend. Therefore, the preference is for the hosts.
