Union Berlin look to recover in the Bundesliga this weekend after seeing their previous fixture called off in the competition. Borussia Monchengladbach could present an interesting opponent this weekend after winning three of their last five.
It has been a contrasting season for Union Berlin this term, as they are flirting dangerously with the relegation places at this stage of the season. The German side enjoyed a campaign to remember last term after finishing in the bottom four, but survival is the main aim for the capital club at this stage.
They come into this fixture having lost four of their previous five matches in the competition. Meanwhile, Union has lost nine of their opening 12 this term, which is the most defeats suffered by any side in Germany’s top flight at this stage. However, they at least ended their losing run in their previous fixture in the Bundesliga, as they battled to a 1-1 draw at home against Augsburg. Their equalising goal in that fixture was netted with two minutes remaining by Kevin Volland.
Borussia Monchengladbach certainly appear to be among the improving sides in the Bundesliga at this stage, as they have landed three victories in their previous five. That run of form has seen them rise up the standings to tenth, and they could move up to seventh with a second straight win this weekend.
Gladbach bounced back to winning ways last weekend, as they claimed a 2-1 home success against Hoffenheim. They were good value for maximum points in that fixture, and their winning effort was netted with just ten minutes remaining by Nathan Ngoumou.
Union boasts an excellent record in this fixture, as they have landed victories in each of their last four matches against Gladbach. Their most recent success was a 1-0 win on the road in April. Meanwhile, Gladbach has landed just one win in eight Bundesliga meetings with Union, with that success coming in May 2020.
Union showed some fight in their previous Bundesliga match against Augsburg, but this appears to be another tricky assignment. Despite boasting a poor record in this fixture, we will be taking a chance on Gladbach landing a second straight win in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
