Bayer Leverkusen are within three victories of the Bundesliga title this season, and they will be heavily fancied to take another stride toward achieving that goal when they travel to Germany’s capital on Saturday to take on Union Berlin.
Bayer Leverkusen are on the cusp of achieving something extraordinary this season, with three more wins required to wrap up the Bundesliga title. The German giants side 13 points clear of Bayern Munich after 27 rounds of matches, and Xabi Alonso’s side are still yet to lose a competitive fixture of any description this term.
Leverkusen have recorded wins in 23 of their 27 league matches this term, and they continue to boast the best defensive record after allowing just 19 goals in the Bundesliga. Alonso’s side took another step toward winning the league title in the previous round of matches after scoring twice in the final three minutes to land a 2-1 home success against Hoffenheim. Robert Andrich levelled the scores after 88 minutes, before the winner was netted by Patrik Schick in the first minute of injury time.
Union Berlin will have the home advantage this weekend, as they look for an important victory that could take them to within striking distance of the top half of the standings. They have eased their relegation worries in recent months, and they come into this round after winning eight of their 27 matches this term.
Union have also avoided defeat in each of their last two matches in the competition, with their previous outing ending in a draw against Eintracht Frankfurt. But, they looked incredibly light in the final third throughout that match on the road.
Leverkusen has a strong record against Union after avoiding defeat in each of the last six league meetings between the sides. They have also recorded victories in two of the last three, which includes a 4-0 home win in November. Union have failed to score in their last three matches against Leverkusen.
Leverkusen’s hunt for perfection continues this weekend, and they look good value to maintain their unbeaten record in the Bundesliga. Therefore, we will be siding with the away side claiming maximum points to move within two victories of immortality in Germany.
