Bayern Munich’s ten-year hold on the Bundesliga title has come to an end, but Thomas Tuchel will be aware that there is still a job to be done this term. The Bavarian giants will need maximum points against Union Berlin on Saturday to enhance their chances of finishing second in the standings.
It has been far from the season that Bayern Munich would have been hoping for this term, as their long grip on the Bundesliga title has finally come to an end. It could also be incredibly likely that the Bavarian giants may end the season without a major piece of silverware.
They come into this round of matches in the league after suffering defeats in two of their last three matches in the competition. But, they did at least get back on track in the competition with a victory in the previous round of fixtures. It was a professional display on that occasion against FC Köln, as the former champions landed a 2-0 success. Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller netted the goals in that victory.
It has been a humbling season for Union Berlin following their finish in the Champions League spots last term. The German side have won just eight of their 29 matches this term, and they have suffered defeats on 16 occasions. Union come into this round in poor recent form after losing three of their last five matches in the competition.
They have also suffered losses in each of their last two matches in the competition. Union’s most recent defeat was suffered on the road against Augsburg last Friday. That defeat means that they have now conceded three goals across their last two matches, and they have failed to score over that period.
Bayern Munich have dominated their matches against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga since the start of 2019, winning six of the last nine previous encounters. Union have also failed to claim victory against Bayern since gaining promotion to the top-flight.
Bayern Munich haven’t enjoyed the best season in the Bundesliga this term, but their overall record against Union gives them an excellent chance of claiming maximum points this week. We expect the visitors to pick up a 3-0 success.
