As well as a busy schedule from the top European football league’s, followers of the sport also have this year’s African Nations tournament to enjoy. Matches continue this midweek as Uganda take on Morocco in a game that will be shown live on television to a global audience.
Uganda and Morocco have met only twice before in competitive action with the head-to-head scores tied at one win each. Uganda won the first meeting 1-0 back in November 2011 but Morocco fired back with a 3-1 win in this tournament seven years ago.
Uganda are currently ranked 79th in the world by FIFA and that’s not too far off their best effort having reached 62nd in 2016. Despite dropping down the pecking order slightly in the last five years this Uganda team look to be heading back in the right direction again. They are a team good enough to go deep into this competition.
This year’s African Nations will be Uganda’s eighth appearance in the competition since first qualifying back in 1962. Their best effort so far came in the form of a runners up finish in 1978. They are yet to lift the trophy, but fans will believe their heroes are heading in the right direction.
Morocco started this competition ranked 35th in the world by FIFA making them one of the highest-rated teams in the African Nations set-up. They have been as high as 10th in the past but haven’t climbed to those dizzy heights since the 90s. Morocco aren’t as strong as they once were but are always well fancied in this competition.
It is no surprise to learn Morocco have qualified for the African Nations 17 times already, but they have managed to lift the trophy only once since their first appearance in 1972. That spare victory was in 1976, taking the tournament by storm in their early efforts.
Morocco are a former champion and side well-ranked by FIFA but know they must give a dangerous Uganda their full attention if they are to get the win. Morocco are talented enough to create chances and have the quality in the attacking areas to turn opportunities into goals.
Uganda have been priced at 7.5 to win this match with Morocco available at 2.17 and the draw 2.02.
