Recent UEFA Announcements Regarding Postponements to Euro 2020 and Other Tournaments

According to the Football Association of Serbia, UEFA recently held an e-meeting with the presidents and general secretaries of each of its associations. During this time, the Association decided to hold the Euro’s final tournament from November 6th – 7th, 2021. UEFA is planning on using the same venues that they had originally hired to host Euro 2020 matches. A spokesperson for the Association verified that it is in contact with all twelve cities. There will be a public announcement if any of the venues are changed.

Prior to the UEFA’s e-meeting, the Association had already determined that Euro 2020 would be postponed until June 11th – July 11th of 2021. Currently, it has not been determined whether the rescheduled tournament will be referred to as “Euro 2020” or “Euro 2021”.

UEFA has also determined that the UNL (Nations League) qualifying playoff between Norway and Serbia will o

ccur in June 2020. Of course, this may be subject to change as the coronavirus situation continues to develop. At the time of the conference, UEFA was hopeful that all of its national competitions, Champions League matches, and Europe League finals would wrap up before June 30th, 2020. This decision was supported unanimously by the UEFA’s National Associations.

On April 1st, 2020, UEFA announced that it is postponing all national team matches that were supposed to be played in June 2020. Because of this, it does not seem likely that the Association will be able to meet its goal of completing national matches by June 30th

The Under-17 Championship and Women’s Under-19 Championship final matches have both been canceled. The former was scheduled for May 2020, while the latter was supposed to take place in July 2020.

The Women’s Under-17 Championship finals have been postponed, but it does not have a new set date yet. Similarly, the European Under-19 Championship finals are no longer happening in July 2020 but will instead be postponed indefinitely.

On top of this, UEFA postponed its Futsal Champions League final matches, which were supposed to happen in April 2020.

UEFA has not yet chosen the new dates on which the European Women’s Championship and the U-21 Championship will be held.

Because the worldwide pandemic is causing so much confusion and numerous delays, UEFA has decided to postpone player admission and registration deadlines. The new dates have not yet been announced.

The UEFA’s Executive Committee made the call to give its member associations more time to apply for club licensing. The Committee acknowledged that such exceptional circumstances as a pandemic require executive interventions to aid its members.
