There will be an interesting clash in Ligue 1 on Saturday, as the reigning French champions PSG travel to Toulouse. Both sides will be hopeful of landing maximum points in this huge match on Saturday.
Life under Luis Enrique didn’t get off to the best start for PSG, as they played out an unentertaining match against Lorient on matchday one. The Parisians looked short of quality in the final third, and that has led to the reintegration of Kylian Mbappe. However, Enrique won’t have Neymar to call upon this term, as the Brazilian has moved to the Saudi Pro League.
PSG dominated proceedings against Lorient last weekend, but they mustered just four shots on target despite having a staggering 78% of the possession. PSG completed 1001 passes in that opening match, marking the first time that a Ligue 1 side had completed that number of passes in the competition since Opta stats began. However, PSG will be looking to avoid going their opening two matches without a win for the first time since 2020-21.
Toulouse made a more reliable start to Ligue 1 in their opening match of the season, as they recorded a 2-1 win on the road against Nantes. It was a dramatic finish to the match, with Rasmus Nicolaisen netting the winner in the final minute of injury time. However, the visitors looked incredibly sharp in the final third throughout the match.
The opening day win means that Toulouse are now unbeaten in their last six Ligue 1 matches. They haven’t enjoyed a longer unbeaten sequence since March 2009 when they went 12 matches without defeat. Interestingly, Toulouse haven’t lost their opening home match at the start of a Ligue 1 season since a 2-0 defeat against Nice in August 2005.
The hosts have lost a staggering 57% of their matches against PSG in Ligue 1. In 65 previous encounters, Toulouse have won just 15 times. Meanwhile, they have failed to score in each of their last three home matches against PSG, which includes a 3-0 loss in this exact fixture last term.
PSG made a sticky start to life under Enrique last weekend, but improvement is expected this weekend. Therefore, we will be siding with the reigning champions landing a first win of the new season on Saturday.
