Two German sides that are competing for positions in the European places this term will collide in the Bundesliga this weekend. Stuttgart will be looking for a famous win against Eintracht Frankfurt, which could potentially move them into second in the standings.
It has been an excellent season from a Stuttgart perspective this season, as the German side are on course to finish in a Champions League position. They come into this round of matches sitting third, and they hold a seven-point advantage over fifth-place Borussia Dortmund with just six rounds of matches remaining. The German side also comes into this round in strong recent form in the competition.
Stuttgart have recorded victories in four of their last five matches, and a victory this weekend could see them move above Bayern Munich into second in the standings. The German side produced a strong effort in their latest match, as they held on to record a famous 1-0 away victory against Borussia Dortmund. Their winning goal in that success was netted by Serhou Guirassy with just under half an hour remaining.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s best possible finish at this stage appears to be a place in the Europa Conference League. The German side comes into this round sitting in sixth, and they appear relatively comfortable in that spot, boasting a six-point advantage over Augsburg. However, they haven’t been consistent enough throughout the season to challenge for a place in the top five.
Frankfurt have struggled for victories in recent weeks, and that is echoed based on the fact that they have gone three without a victory in the Bundesliga. They come into this weekend after playing out draws in each of their last two.
Stuttgart are unbeaten in their last two matches against Frankfurt, with their only victory in their last nine matches against their rivals coming in the reverse clash in November. Draws have been a very common outcome between these rivals, with ties being played out in four of the last seven.
This should be a high-quality fixture between these two sides, and cases can be made for both to claim maximum points. However, it’s hard to overlook the prospect of a home win, given the form that Stuttgart have boasted throughout the campaign to this point.
