It has been a difficult start to the season for Bayer Leverkusen, but they will look to get their first win on the board this weekend as they take on Stuttgart. But, will they be able to claim three points?
It has been a tricky opening to the season for Bayer Leverkusen, but they will get a perfect opportunity this weekend to get their first three points of the new Bundesliga season. Bayer will still be feeling the loss of Kai Havertz, who departed the club for Chelsea during the summer window. They have drawn both of their games so far this season, with those points being picked up against Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig.
They have scored just once in these two fixtures, with that goal coming in their 1-1 draw against Leipzig last time out. Bayer went behind in that game, as Emil Forsberg opened the scoring after 14 minutes. However, Bayer were much better in this game than they were against Wolfsburg, and levelled the scored six minutes later through Karen Demirbay. Leverkusen dominated the possession throughout the game, and they would have been disappointed that they didn’t take all three points.
Stuttgart are currently riding high in the Bundesliga table as they sit in eighth. They have started the new season with one win and one defeat. They lost on the opening day to Freiburg, but bounced back efficiently last time out with a 4-1 success away from home against Mainz.
They went behind in the opening half in that game, but they scored four unanswered goals to turn the tide in their favour. Silas Wamangiuka levelled the scores, before Daniel Didavi, Matteo Kilmowicz and Sasa Kalajdzic made sure of the three points. However, they will be without Pascal Stenzel, who was sent off in injury time.
Bayer have won the last three against Stuttgart, with the most recent of those coming in February, as they ran out 2-1 winners. Stuttgart’s last win against their opponents this weekend came back in April 2018.
It hasn’t been the best of starts for Bayer, but they showed in last weekend’s game against Leipzig that there are flashes that they are on their way to being back to their best. They should be able to get their first win of the season in this fixture.
