The 2022-23 season has been a struggle for Stoke City, but the Potters will be looking to continue their run in the FA Cup in midweek. Premier League Brighton will be the visitors to the Bet365 Stadium, as the Seagulls look to maintain their excellent domestic form.
Stoke City will face a challenging end to the current season, as they will be fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Championship table. The former FA Cup finalists will be looking to continue their hot streak in this competition, as they have already eliminated both Hartlepool and Stevenage. However, they will be looking to reach the last eight of the FA Cup for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
But, they are yet to reach that stage while playing outside the top-flight since 1927-28. Jacob Brown has been a key player for Stoke throughout their run to this stage, as he has scored three goals in his previous four appearances in the competition. That includes goals in each of the third and fourth rounds. But, no Stoke player since Ricardo Fuller has scored in every round leading up to the quarterfinals.
It has been an incredible season in the Premier League to this point for Brighton & Hove Albion, as they remain in the hunt for a European spot. However, an FA Cup success would indicate just how far the Seagulls have come in recent seasons, and they have faced few issues to this point, beating Liverpool in the previous round 2-1.
The Seagulls also have an excellent record against teams in the division below them, as they have progressed from 16 of their previous 17 FA Cup ties. However, both of those defeats have come in the past five seasons, including defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in the 2019-20 campaign.
This will be the second clash between the sides in the FA Cup, with Stoke running out 3-0 winners on their way to the final in 2011. Meanwhile, Brighton has failed to win in their previous ten games against Stoke in all competitions.
It has been a struggle for Stoke in the Championship throughout this season, but they boast an incredible record against Brighton coming into this fixture. That could make for a compelling betting angle, as we could see the Potters reaching the last eight of the competition on Tuesday.
