There could be an air of rivalry between these two nations coming into this friendly, as South Korea progressed through out of Group H at the expense of Uruguay in Qatar. That defeat left the South Americans in tears, as they embarrassingly crashed out at the group stage. But, in truth, they only had themselves to blame after a goalless draw against the hosts on Tuesday, before falling to defeat against Portugal.
Uruguay have already been back in action since then, as they played against Japan in a friendly late last week. The South Americans went ahead before the half-time break, as Federico Valverde opened the scoring. However, they registered just two shots on target, and were made to pay in the second half as Japan levelled.
South Korea may have benefitted from the Group H standings, as they progressed through to the next round, but they were easily beaten by Brazil in the round of 16, which brought a swift end to their World Cup journey at the first knockout stage hurdle.
Like Uruguay, they have also been back in action since the conclusion of the World Cup. South Korea was held to a 2-2 draw by Colombia on their return to the pitch. The Asian nation started excellently, as led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Heung Min Son. However, a sloppy start to the second period allowed the South American nation to level the scores.

Uruguay has won six of the previous nine meetings that they have had with South Korea. However, the Asian nation is now unbeaten in their previous two. They were 2-1 winners in a friendly in October 2018, while the most recent clash ended in a 0-0 draw at the 2022 World Cup.

We expect this to be a cagey fixture, just like the meeting between the sides at the World Cup was. We struggle to see any more than three goals being scored in the match, but we give the narrow preference to Uruguay to land the victory.
