Slovenia will conclude their Group H qualifying campaign on Monday when they host Kazakhstan. The hosts will be looking for maximum points, which would assure their spot at the major tournament next summer. However, Kazakhstan could yet move into the top two spots if they land back-to-back wins in their remaining matches.
An exciting Group H comes to a close in EURO qualification on Monday evening, as two sides that may be in direct opposition for a spot in the top two lock horns. Slovenia have their fate in their own hands, and they will be aware that victory in their fixture on Friday would take the pressure off ahead of this home match to round off the group.
Should it go to the final day, then Slovenia could drop out of the qualifying spots if they are beaten at home by their rivals. However, they will take massive confidence from their recent form in the group, as they have landed victories in each of their last four. Meanwhile, Slovenia have won six of their eight matches in Group H, and boast the best attacking and defensive records at this stage.
Kazakhstan will be looking for a favour to take their battle to the final day, as they will need either Denmark or Slovenia to drop points in their matches on Friday. They will also need to land victories in each of their last two matches to keep their dreams alive of finishing in the top two spots. However, they do have the assurance of a playoff in early 2024.
The visitors have won three of their last five matches, and five of their eight qualifying matches in Group H. Only the top two in the group have won more matches than Kazakhstan coming into the final two rounds of fixtures.
Slovenia and Kazakhstan have only collided on one previous occasion in international football history. That previous meeting came back in March, as Slovenia landed a crucial 2-1 success on the road against their rivals.
If results go in Kazakhstan’s favour, this could be a thrilling final day showdown. However, we fully expect Slovenia to finish in the top two places, and they could get over the line if required on Monday by picking up a nervy draw in front of their home fans.
