The Monday night action in the Premier League comes from Bramall Lane, as Arsenal look to keep their title challenge on track when they face relegation-threatened Sheffield United. The Gunners will be chasing a seventh straight win.
It has been a stunning start to the new calendar year by the Gunners, as they have recorded wins in each of their first six matches to start a new year for the first time in their history. That has had a huge impact on the title race, as the Gunners now sit just two points behind Liverpool, and boast a better goal difference than the two sides located above them.
Arsenal are the league’s second highest scorers at this stage of the season, while they also boast the best defensive record in the competition after allowing just 23 goals. The Gunners maintained their excellent recent form last weekend with a stunning 4-1 home win against Newcastle United. It could be hard to overlook Arsenal’s in-form attackers when weighing up the most likely result this week.
Sheffield United remain rooted to the opposite end of the Premier League standings, as they are bottom of the top flight. The Blades have recorded just three wins from their 26 matches this term, and they have allowed a league-high of 66 goals already this term. At this stage, they are on course to concede more goals than any other side in a single Premier League campaign.
Sheffield United have suffered defeats in each of their last two matches in the competition, and have also suffered losses in four of their last five. Their most recent defeat was suffered on the road against Wolves after they were unable to hit back after going 1-0 down inside half an hour.
Arsenal have picked up victories in each of their last three league matches against the Blades, which includes a 3-0 win on their previous visit to Bramall Lane. Sheffield United’s only win in their last five fixtures against the Gunners across all competitions was a 1-0 league success in October 2019 at home.
This could be a straightforward assignment for the Gunners this weekend, as they boast one of the best attacking records in the competition and they will be coming up against the league’s worst defence. We expect Arsenal to run out comfortable winners by at least a three-goal margin.
