It hasn’t been the season that many Sevilla fans would have been hoping for, as they find themselves toward the bottom of the La Liga standings. At present, they are just two points clear of the drop zone, but their recent form has been good since the World Cup. The Spanish side had won three of their previous four before last weekend’s showdown against Barcelona.

However, that positive run of form was brought to a screeching halt by the runaway leaders in Spain, as Barcelona picked up a comfortable 3-0 win. Sevilla would have been pleased with their defensive performance for much of the game, but they were made to pay after starting the second half slowly. They showed very little in the final third, managing just a single shot on target.

Mallorca already appear to be looking up rather than focusing on the relegation battle, as they are nine clear of the bottom three early into the second half of the season. The Spanish club has been in fine recent form, as they have picked up three wins from their previous five league matches.

They once again showed their quality last weekend, as they picked up a famous 1-0 win against Real Madrid in front of their home fans. An own goal by Nacho after 13 minutes was the decisive moment in that fixture. However, they were more than deserving of that slice of luck, as they restricted Real to just a single shot on target.

Sevilla is unbeaten in five previous league meetings between these sides. Over that run, they have picked up three wins, which includes a 1-0 win earlier this season. Mallorca’s last win in Seville came back in November 2010, and they have won just once in their previous ten against Sevilla.
