Sevilla seemed to get their Champions League battle back on track last weekend, as they recorded a second win in three games. They could move up to second for a few days at least on Friday if they can record a victory against Cadiz.
It was a nervy few weeks for Sevilla, but they have seemingly strengthened their position in the top four over the previous three matchdays. They come into this round of fixtures with a six-point advantage over Real Betis, with just five games of the La Liga season remaining.
Sevilla have still lost two of their previous five games in the Spanish top-flight, but recent wobbles from the sides around them mean that they haven’t lost much ground in terms of their battle to finish in the Champions League places.
The Spanish side claimed a much-needed win in their recent fixture in La Liga, as they recorded a 3-2 success against Levante last Thursday. Jules Kounde scored the important third goal in that win, which came after Jesus Corona had netted a brace.
Every game is vital for Cadiz at this stage of the season, as they still sit down in 17th place in the league standings. They are just a point clear of Granada coming into the final five games of the season. Importantly, they still boast a superior goal difference, which could yet be vital.
Cadiz has recorded two wins in their previous five games, but have also lost the same number of times. They were beaten for the second time in three last weekend, as they fell to a 3-2 home defeat against Athletic Bilbao. That defeat came just days after their famous away win at the Nou Camp.
Sevilla have picked up five straight wins against Cadiz, which includes three straight victories in fixtures between the sides in La Liga. Cadiz have scored just once in three league meetings between the sides, and lost this fixture 3-0 last season. The meeting between the sides earlier in the campaign was won 1-0 by Sevilla.
Sevilla’s dominant record in this fixture, coupled with their recent return to form, makes this a daunting task for Cadiz. Therefore, I think the safest play for this fixture on Friday evening is on a bet for the home side. I could see Sevilla winning 2-0.
