Sevilla vs AS Roma Prediction: Europa League on 12.03.2020

One of the matches of the round in the Europa League will see AS Roma travel to Spain looking to take the advantage in their round of 16 clash. But, which side will seize the initiative in the first leg?

Europa League Preview

Sevilla are enjoying an excellent season in La Liga this term and may have hopes of achieving a top-four finish from their league position. They currently hold a two-point lead over fifth-placed Atletico, but the Europa League could also be a potential route into the premier competition in Europe. They go into this fixture against AS Roma in decent form, having won twice in their last four games in La Liga. They haven’t lost in five games, and they made it through to this stage of the competition after beating Cluj.

It was far from a vintage display by the Spanish side in those two games, as they were made to work incredibly hard. In the end, their 1-1 draw away from home saw them progress through to this stage on away goals. The second leg ended in a 0-0 draw in Spain, and Sevilla’s job was made a little easier since Cluj was forced to play with ten men for an extended period of time. They will have to be much better in this fixture.

AS Roma also rode their luck in the last round of the competition, as they squeezed past Gent with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline. They did the damage in their fixture in the away leg as they won 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Carles Perez before Roma made it through to the next stage of the competition following a 1-1 drawback in Belgium. This competition could be Roma’s best chance of achieving Champions League football for next term, but they will have to be at their very best to beat Sevilla.

Head To Head

This will be the third meeting between these two sides. Both teams have won on one occasion in the past, while Roma averages 3.5 goals per fixture, and Sevilla averages 3.0 goals per game.

Sevilla Team News

Fernando and Daniel Carrico are both unlikely to play in the first leg for the hosts.

AS Roma Team News

Lorenzo Pellegrini isn’t expected back until March for Roma, while Amadou Diawara and Davide Zappacosta are also expected to miss out.

Sevilla vs AS Roma Prediction

This will be one of the tightest games in this round of the competition. Neither side will be wanting to lose the first leg, and that means that a draw could be the most likely result.

Tip: Draw.
