Wolfsburg will be looking to get back on track in the Bundesliga on Friday evening after losing each of their previous two. However, they will come up against a Schalke side that are also desperate for points, as the hosts sit bottom of the standings.
The Bundesliga weekend kicks off on Friday evening with another huge fixture for Schalke. The hosts remain bottom of the league standings, but their chances of survival are looking bleaker by the week. Schalke has won just two games from 19 this term, and have picked up just eleven points. At present, they sit eight points adrift from safety, and have lost three of their previous five.
However, there has been room for optimism in recent weeks, as Schalke have gone two games without conceding. But, they haven’t scored in either of those two outings either. Most recently, they held Borussia Monchengladbach to a 0-0 draw on Saturday. In that game, Schalke looked the most likely winner, but they couldn’t find a way through despite registering five shots on target.
Wolfsburg will be the visitors this Friday, as they bid to get back on track after losing each of their previous two. Those defeats mean that they are now in danger of getting outpaced in the race for a European finish, as they are five points off sixth-placed Freiburg.
Their most recent defeat was suffered at home against Bayern Munich last weekend. They found themselves 3-0 down in that fixture after 20 minutes, and despite registering two goals of their own on either side of half time, they never looked like getting back into the game against the reigning German champions. But, this is a slightly more straightforward fixture for them against Schalke on Friday.
Schalke has gone six games without a win in all competitions against Wolfsburg. The visitors have picked up four wins over the same amount of time, which includes a 2-0 win in this fixture in the 2020-21 season. The previous meeting between the sides ended in a 0-0 draw, meaning that Schalke has now failed to score in three previous meetings against Wolfsburg.
It’s very challenging to see where the next Schalke win is coming this season. Their inability in front of goal looks to be a big concern for this fixture, and we see Wolfsburg claiming a straightforward 2-0 win on Friday evening.
