Two teams at opposite ends of the Serie A table will meet in Italy on Friday night, with Sassuolo looking to maintain their excellent start to the season. But, will the hosts be able to get the three points?
Sassuolo are one of just three teams that have started the season without a defeat in their opening four league games. That record ensures that they are comfortably sitting in second place in the league standings, just two points below AC Milan. While it looks improbable that they will remain on course for a title challenge this season, this strong start will certainly be ideal for their aim of challenging for a European position this term.
Sassuolo have won three of their four fixtures, with their only draw coming on the opening day of the season. Since picking up that point, they have won all three games that they have played in Serie A. The most recent of those matches came against Bologna. An own goal by Takehiro Tomiyasu gave Sassuolo the three points in the final ten minutes. There were also goals for Domenico Berardi, Filip Durcic and Francesco Caputo in the win for Sassuolo.
If Sassuolo have started the season excellently, then Torino have been anything but fantastic to this point. They are currently rock bottom of Serie A as they have lost all three games that they have played this season. Their defensive issues have been their real problem, as they have already conceded eight goals. Three of those came in their recent 3-2 defeat against Cagliari. Andrea Belotti scored twice for Torino in the defeat, but Cagliari dominated the game and were justifiable winners of the game. There will need to be a response from Torino in this fixture.
Sassuolo recorded their first win against Torino in four years last season, as they won 2-1 at home. Before winning that fixture, they had gone seven games without a win against Torino. They will be confident that they will be able to get a second win on the bounce this weekend.
Sassuolo have been one of the standout teams in Serie A to this point, and they should get the three points against the struggling Torino. We fully expect the home side to claim the three points in this fixture.
