Napoli have put down an early marker for the Serie A title this season, as they are the only team in the league that still boasts a 100% record. They will be looking to maintain that excellent start when they travel to Sampdoria on Thursday evening.
Luciano Spalletti is continuing to get the very best from his Napoli side over the early weeks of the Italian season this term, as Napoli currently sit in second place in the league standings. However, they can move back to the top of the table with a win on Thursday evening, which would also be their fifth straight victory. The Italian giants have been excellent at both ends of the field, as they have scored ten goals and conceded just twice so far this term. There was another comprehensive win at the weekend for the side from Naples, as they hammered Udinese 4-0 away from home. Victor Osimhen continued his excellent form with the opener, before further goals were added by Amir Rrahmani, Kalidou Koulibaly and Hirving Lozano.
Sampdoria wont just give Napoli the three points in this fixture on Thursday, as they have also been steady at the start of the new season. They have recovered well since defeat on the opening weekend, and they have now gone three without loss. A first win of the Serie A season came in their most recent outing, as they eased to a 3-0 success against Empoli. Francesco Caputo scored twice in that win, with his goals coming either side of the half time break. The third was added by Antonio Candreva with just 20 minutes of the game remaining. That victory would have certainly given them confidence ahead of this fixture against Napoli.
Sampdoria’s last win against Napoli came back in September 2018. They have gone five without a win against Napoli, with the side from Naples having won on all five occasions. Napoli have also won their last two away from home against their opponents on Thursday evening.
Sampdoria’s confidence will be high after claiming victory at the weekend. However, it’s hard to look past Napoli maintaining their 100% record given the performances that they have put in over the early weeks of the Serie A season.
