It has been a busy period off the field for AS Roma, as the Italian club parted company with Jose Mourinho last week. The club will be looking to get their season back on track on Monday when they travel to Salernitana in Serie A.
Jose Mourinho’s time at Roma has come to an end, and the club must do everything that they can to reignite their chances of finishing in a Champions League spot over the coming weeks. The Italian giants returned to winning ways in their previous match, which saw them move up to eighth in the standings. However, they are currently two points off the top four.
It was a professional display by Roma in their latest match in the competition, but it was a scrappy result against relegation-threatened Hellas Verona. Both of Roma’s goals were netted in the opening 25 minutes, with Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Pellegrini scoring the goals. However, those were the only shots on target that the Italian club managed at the Stadio Olimpico.
Salernitana will once again come into a Serie A fixture as the massive outsiders in the betting. The Italian club remain rooted to the bottom of the standings after winning just twice all season. Their recent run of form means that they come into the round sitting six points from safety.
Salernitana have been unable to build on a victory before the winter break, as they have suffered defeats in each of their last three matches in the competition. Their most recent defeat was suffered at home against Genoa. The hosts went ahead after just two minutes, but the game was quickly flipped on its head shortly into the second half.
Roma have a positive record against Salernitana, as they have avoided defeat in all five previous encounters. They have recorded three victories over that period. However, each of the previous two matches between these teams have ended in draws. That includes an entertaining 2-2 outcome in the previous meeting this season.
Roma were below their best against Hellas Verona last weekend, but they at least gained maximum points. It could be yet another scrappy performance by the club this weekend, but we fully expect them to have enough quality to gain maximum points at Salernitana on Monday.
