Gladbach have won the tournament on three previous occasions, and they have reached the final on a further two occasions. FC Saarbrücken have been one of the stories of the DFB Pokal this term, and they are within two wins of reaching a first ever final in the competition. They have only reached the last four on four occasions in their entire history, with their most recent run to that stage coming in 2019-20. 

Saarbrücken made international headlines earlier this season when they managed to stun the reigning German champions by knocking out Bayern Munich in the second round. Their fairytale continued in the previous round, as they once again upset the odds to eliminate Eintracht Frankfurt. Therefore, it could be very challenging to overlook their chances this week.
