The Group I EURO qualification campaign draws to a close on Tuesday, as the two sides at the top of the standings lock horns. It will be an interesting battle between Switzerland and Romania, with the winning nation on Tuesday set to top the standings.
It has been an excellent qualifying campaign for both Romania and Switzerland, as their places at the EURO finals in Germany have already been assured ahead of this final day showdown. Instead, the aim for both sides on Tuesday will be gain the result that they require to top the standings.
Romania hold the advantage in the race for top spot in Group I, as they are currently two points clear of their rivals ahead of this home match. They come into this fixture in excellent recent form, as they have won three of their previous four. Meanwhile, they are yet to suffer a defeat in nine qualifying matches. Their defensive record is excellent, as they have allowed just five goals to this point.
However, Switzerland will likely be the favourites in the betting, as they have the better players across the field. However, they have been held to draws in each of their previous three matches, and four of their last five in the group. Still, they boast an unbeaten record in qualifying, and they have scored a very impressive 22 goals across their nine matches.
The Swiss played out yet another draw in their most recent match, as they were held in front of their home fans by Kosovo. Their only goal in that fixture was netted by Ruben Vargas, but their advantage was wiped away in the final ten minutes of the match by their rivals.
Romania holds the narrow advantage in the overall record, as they have won on five occasions compared to the four wins recorded by the Swiss. However, there have also been five draws played out between these nations. That includes ties in each of the previous two. The most recent of those was a 2-2 draw in Switzerland in June.
This is a hard game to call, as both of these nations boast an excellent chance of gaining maximum points on Tuesday. However, it could be worth siding with the draw in Romania, as each of the previous two clashes between the nations have ended level.
