Roma’s charge for a Champions League finish in Serie A continues this weekend as they welcome Torino to Rome. The visitors have shown some impressive form in recent weeks after going five without defeat in the Italian top-flight.
The sacking of Jose Mourinho appears to have worked in Roma’s favour, as the Italian side have smoothly re-entered the race for a European spot this term. Roma currently sit sixth in the standings, but they are just four points off Atalanta, who currently sit four. A victory this weekend could see them end the round with a point of their target at the start of the season.
It is certainly easy to make a case for Roma this weekend, as they come into the round after winning four of their last five matches in the competition. They showed great character in their previous fixture to bounce back to winning ways at the first attempt against Frosinone. Sardar Azmoun and Leandro Paredes were both among the scorers in that win on the road.
Torino will likely not be fazed by this challenge on the road, as they come into this weekend in solid recent form after avoiding defeat in their last five. They could yet have their sights set on a European finish this term, as they are just two points behind seventh-place Fiorentina.
Torino picked up a ninth victory of the season in their latest fixture, securing a solid home win against Lecce. Duvan Zapata continued his excellent scoring campaign in Italy by netting the second goal in that success with just nine minutes remaining on the clock. But, this looks set to be a tougher assignment at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
Roma has picked up victories in three of their last five matches against Torino, but two of the last three have ended in draws. The previous clash this term ended in a tie, with the sides held at 1-1 in September. However, Roma have recorded victories in two of their last three home matches against Torino.
Both sides come into this weekend’s match in fine form, and it should be a low-scoring affair. Therefore, we could see under 2.5 match goals being scored. But, the narrow preference is for Roma to get over the line with a 1-0 victory in Rome.
