Real Sociedad’s place in the Champions League spots in La Liga is coming under increasing pressure. They will need to land victory at home against Getafe this weekend to remain in the top four spots.
The first half of the season was an excellent showing by Real Sociedad, but their performances have dropped in the second half of the campaign. Their place in the top four is now coming under threat, as they sit just three points clear of Real Betis with eleven games of the season remaining. Sociedad’s recent struggles is evident over their past five matches, as they have recorded just a single win.
Over the same period, they have also suffered two defeats. That includes a loss in their most recent fixture in La Liga, as they were beaten 2-0 on the road by Villarreal. It was a disappointing display by Sociedad on that outing, as they managed just three shots on target, and were outplayed for long periods against their Spanish rivals.
Getafe’s outlook in La Liga is looking much brighter than it was a few weeks ago, as they have easily moved up to 14th in the standings after going four without defeat. That run of form has given them a three-point advantage over the sides in the relegation places, and they will be looking to record a third win in five this weekend.
Getafe’s excellent run was halted slightly in their previous match, as they could only play out a 0-0 draw against Bilbao. However, their defensive performance was excellent in that fixture, as they restricted the Champions League-chasing Bilbao to just three shots on target.
Sociedad is winless in their previous three matches against Getafe. The visitors this weekend recorded a 2-1 win in the previous meeting this term, and they will be looking for a first league double over their rivals since 2017-18. Two of the previous three have ended in draws.
This will be a difficult fixture in the league for Sociedad this weekend. Based on Getafe’s recent defensive performances, and their healthy head-to-head record against Sociedad, we would be keen to take a chance on the away side on Saturday afternoon.
