Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction: La Liga Match on 25.02.2023

After coming from behind to beat Liverpool 2-5 away to Anfield, Carlo Ancelotti and his charges will turn their attention to chasing Barcelona in La Liga and the derby against Atletico Madrid on Saturday at 17:30 GMT.

Diego Simeone and his Atletico Madrid players will be looking to extend their current unbeaten run in La Liga, which has seen the climb into the top four and open a 4-point lead from 5th-placed Real Betis.

With Barcelona opening up an eight-point lead at the top of La Liga, the defending champions will be looking to step up their form to chase them down in a bid to defend their crown.

Key Highlights

Real Madrid’s Recent Derby Dominance

Real Madrid have dominated this fixture in recent fixtures. One of the fiercest rivals for Los Blancos behind that of their Clasico opponents Barcelona, the home team will be looking to get a win at home and advance their chances of fighting Barcelona for La Liga this season.

Carlo Ancelotti will know that his Madrid side cannot afford to slip up in the fight with Barcelona. Anything other than a win will be disappointing for the home side. Therefore, the focus will be on picking a strong side and adopting the right mentality to fight in a derby match against their city rivals.

Since losing 1-0 away to Mallorca, Los Blancos have bounced back with two consecutive wins in La Liga; they will be looking to maintain this winning form in Saturday’s clash with Atletico.

Atletico Madrid’s Good Form Run

Diego Simeone’s men are unbeaten in their last five assignments in La Liga. They have won four times and had a single draw in this run. The 13 points collected, out of the available 15, have elevated them into the top four and within 10 points off 2nd-placed Real Madrid.

A win for Atletico will cut the gap to their city rivals down to 7 while also significantly denting their La Liga title hopes. Most important for Simeone and his charges is the fact that a win will help maintain their top-four status ahead of the chasing pack of Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano.

Atletico will also be looking to make it three wins on the bounce away to Los Blancos on Saturday, this will help underline their turn into good form in the post-World Cup period.

Injury Report

Real Madrid

The recent returns from injury have boosted Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. Team news coming out of Los Blancos show that only Ferland Mendy is expected to be unavailable for selection for the derby clash.

The 27-year-old left-back has been nursing a muscle injury since January 31st, 20213. He has missed 7 matches for Real Madrid so far since his injury. No return date has been set by the club regarding his availability.

Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone will have a fairly full squad available to him ahead of the trip to the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. Only Stefan Savic will not be available for this major clash because he is suspended after receiving a red card in the last match, the 0-1 win away to Celta Vigo.

Otherwise, Simeone will pick his starting 11 from a squad that has been boosted by the return to fitness of many players recently.
