Real Madrid will make their return to league action this weekend after a successful period in Saudi Arabia, which saw them win the Spanish Super Cup. Almería will be massive outsiders in the betting, as they continue to chase a first league win of the season.
It has been a hugely positive winter period for Real Madrid to this point, as the Spanish giants landed a dominant success in the Spanish Super Cup last weekend with a 4-1 win over Barcelona in Saudi Arabia. However, their attention will switch back to the league this weekend, with Real looking to move to the top of the standings.
Los Blancos come into this round of matches sitting second in the standings, but they are just a point behind Girona, having played a game less than their rivals. Real’s league form has been strong throughout the season, winning 15 of their 19 matches, and suffering just one defeat to this point. Their most recent league win was a 1-0 success against Mallorca at the start of January.
It hasn’t been a positive season by any stretch for Almería to this point, as they continue to chase a first league win of the 2023-24 season. The Spanish side sits bottom of the standings, having picked up just six points from their opening 20 matches. Almería have suffered more defeats than any other side, and that leaves them ten points from safety.
They come into this weekend after losing two of their last three matches, but their display last weekend against Girona was one of their most positive this term. They defended excellently in that fixture against the league leaders, and created many of the best openings before playing out a 0-0 draw.
Real Madrid boasts an excellent unbeaten record against Almería, having won nine of the ten matches between the sides across all competitions. The hosts have also won each of the last eight against their rivals, which includes a 3-1 success that was recorded earlier this season.
Almería are struggling in the league this season, and their long wait for a first league win in 2023-24 looks set to continue on Sunday. It appears hard to see anything other than a victory for Real Madrid in front of their home fans in La Liga.
