Leipzig have bounced back to winning ways in recent weeks and they will be bidding to continue that sequence when they host Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon. The visitors will also be looking for a second straight league win.
The race for a Champions League position in the Bundesliga this term looks set to capture the imagination, but Leipzig could be the early front runners for that finish. They come into this weekend after winning each of their last two, which has seen them open up a four-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund in the current standings.
Leipzig’s most recent win was an excellent success at Signal Iduna Park, as they claimed a 3-2 success on the road against Dortmund. Their winning effort was netted in the first minute of injury time by Yussuf Poulsen, but they always appeared in full control of that fixture following Dortmund’s red card after just 15 minutes. They will likely need to be more efficient in the final third this weekend when they create clear scoring opportunities.
Hoffenheim are also in the hunt for a European place this term, as they come into the weekend sitting sixth in the current standings. They have made a pleasing start to the new campaign after winning seven of their opening 14 matches this term. They have recently got back on track after losing two of their last four matches.
That iffy run of form was halted in front of their home fans last weekend, as they registered an impressive 3-1 success against Bochum. Hoffenheim dominated the match throughout the 90 minutes, and they were good value for the goals that were scored by Andrej Kramaric and Ihlas Bebou. But, this weekend could be a more serious question of their European prospects.
Leipzig have claimed victories in each of their last three matches against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. Their most recent success was achieved in this exact fixture last term, as they recorded a 1-0 success in April. Hoffenheim’s last away win against Leipzig was achieved in April 2018.
Leipzig’s excellent home record in this fixture could be the way to go on Saturday. Therefore, we will be siding with them to land a third straight success against Hoffenheim at the Red Bull Arena.
