RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction: DFB-Pokal Match Match on 05.04.2023

The Red Bull Arena will play host to a scintillating quarter-final match-up between the hosts RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund, with a slot in the last four up for grabs on Wednesday from 19:45 GMT.

Borussia Dortmund, chasing the Bundesliga title this season, will also look to add the DFB-Pokal as a route to silverware this season by overcoming Leipzig in the quarters.

RB Leipzig hope to preserve their only chance for silverware this season after falling off the Bundesliga title race and being dumped out of the Champions League by Man City.

Key Highlights

RB Leipzig’s Difficult Form

After they were dumped out of the Champions League by English Premier League champions Man City in a sobering 7-0 hammering at the Etihad Stadium, RB Leipzig followed it up with an inauspicious 1-0 defeat away to VfL Bochum.

Marco Rose’s men’s indifferent run of form has seen them drop out of the top four in the Bundesliga. They are currently fifth on the table, 2 points behind fourth-placed SC Freiburg and a further 8 points behind league leaders and their Wednesday opponents, Dortmund.

With this backdrop, Marco Rose and his charges will look to turn their season around in the cup in yet another big match that could potentially be season-defining for the Red Bull Arena side.

Borussia Dortmund’s flying Form

Besides going out of the Champions League at the hands of Chelsea in the round-of-16, Edin Terzić and his men have had a brilliant season so far. They lead the table by a point ahead of the 26th round of the Bundesliga, and they are looking to make it to the semi-finals on Wednesday when they travel to face RB Leipzig.

Edin Terzić will be looking to maintain the high standards of his side’s performances this season when they face Leipzig. However, the challenge for the gaffer is keeping his players grounded and focused on the cup even as they go all out for the Bundesliga.

A semi-final in the DFB-Pokal is a big match for Dortmund; however, a chance for a domestic double will be as appealing to the black and yellow. This forms the motivation and drive for Edin Terzić and the die Schwarzgelben faithful.

Injury Report

RB Leipzig

Marco Rose will be without some key players in the huge clash against Dortmund on Wednesday.

Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi (cruciate ligament rupture), center back Abdou Diallo (knee problems), and forward Christopher Nkunku (torn muscle giber) are all out of selection.

RB Leipzig will also be without central midfielder Xaver Schlager (syndesmotic ligament tear) and goalkeeper Timo Schlieck (meniscal injury).
