It has been another season to remember for Celtic, as they were crowned Scottish champions once again last weekend. However, they will be looking to put an early marker down for next season in the final Old Firm Derby of the season against Rangers on Saturday.
Celtic will be looking to end the season on a high, as they look to rub salt in the wound of their Old Firm rivals by landing success at Ibrox on Saturday. The destination of the Scottish title has looked over for a long time already, but their coronation was finally confirmed last Saturday. Celtic comes into the final Old Firm of the season in excellent form, as they have won four of their previous five.
The Scottish champions have been relentless throughout the season, and they look on course to eclipse 100 points this term. Their advantage at the top of the standings stands at 13 points, highlighting the task on Rangers’ hands next season when they look to work their way back to the top of the standings.
There was renewed hope at Ibrox when Michael Beale took over at the club, but there is clearly a big challenge on this summer to get them back to within challenging distance of Celtic. Rangers have lost three times as many games as Celtic this term, while they have picked up five fewer victories in the SPL.
The Gers have also struggled for consistency throughout the campaign, which has been evident over their previous five as they have won just three times and have suffered two defeats. Rangers at least come into this fixture after a win in their previous match, as they recorded a 1-0 home success against Aberdeen.
Celtic has dominated the meetings between the sides this season, as they have picked up three wins from four previous meetings. The only blotch on that record was a 2-2 draw on January 2 when the sides met in the SPL. However, Rangers has won on one of their previous two visits to their local rivals.
There is a gulf in quality between these two rivals this season, and Celtic has very much had the measure of their local rivals. We struggle to see anything different than the three previous encounters, with Celtic running out winners against Rangers.
