Competitive action in Group E continues on Monday evening, as Poland will be looking to flex their muscles when they host Albania. The hosts could be one of the nations targeting a top two finish.
Poland will be many people’s ideas as the most likely winner of Group E in qualification. The nation led by Robert Lewandowski has managed to qualify for each of the previous four EUROs, including in the previous campaign where they ended qualification having recorded eight wins from ten matches. That was their joint-best ever qualifying campaign, and they conceded just four goals.
There will certainly be confidence around the camp coming into qualification, as they enjoyed a solid Nations League campaign last year after winning two from six matches in Division A. Poland also reached the round of 16 at the World Cup at the end of last year, before they eventually fell against France. But, the nation remains in good form, as they have won three of the previous six internationals.
Albania could be a nation that surprises a few in qualification this year, as they will be targeted a second appearance at the EUROs in three editions. They were excellent in reaching EURO 2016, as they won four of their eight qualifying matches. However, they missed out on qualification in the previous edition after finishing fourth in their group.
Albania enjoyed a steady Nations League campaign in 2022, as they finished third in their debut outing in Division B. However, there may not be a lot of confidence around the camp, as they have picked up just one win from their previous ten internationals. Although, that win did come in their most recent friendly against Armenia.
Poland has won nine of the 13 matches that they have played against Albania, which includes a run of seven straight successes coming into this qualifier. The most recent encounter between the sides came in October 2021, with Poland landing a 1-0 win away from home.
This could be a tricky fixture for Albania, as they have often been extremely competitive in recent qualification campaigns. However, we expect Poland to make their home advantage count in this second round of fixtures, and we could see them recording a straightforward 2-0 win.
