The top of the Serie A table is getting closer, and the reigning champions will be looking to get within a point of AC Milan this weekend with a win against Parma.
Juventus are quietly going about their business in Serie A this season, and they are now within four points of the league leaders. That difference could have been slimmer had they claimed all three points in their most recent league outing against Atalanta. Juventus were made to settle for a draw in that game, after Remo Freuler equalised in the second half. Federico Chiesa had put Juventus ahead at the Allianz Stadium, and they would have been disappointed not to have taken all three points. The Old Lady are still yet to lose a game this season, and they are one of two teams that boast an unbeaten record as we close in on the winter break in Italy. Juventus have won three of their last five games, and have conceded the fewest goals in the league to this point. If they can continue that excellent form, then they should get maximum points on the road this weekend.
Parma have been a difficult team to beat so far this season, as they have lost just four times. That record means that they are comfortably outside the relegation places at present, as they have a five-point cushion. Parma are unbeaten in four games coming into this fixture, but they have also drawn their last three. The most recent of those draws came on Wednesday evening, as they were held to a 0-0 result by Cagliari. Neither side created enough clear cut chances in the game to deservedly take the three points.
The Old Lady have won three of the previous four games against Parma. That includes the double that they won last season. Parma’s last win against the current Italian champions came in April 2015. Juventus have also the last two away games against Parma.
Parma have shown that they have a grit about them this season, which ensures that this won’t be a comfortable fixture for the reigning champions. However, it will be hard to see Juventus dropping points on the road as they look to bounce back from the 1-1 draw that they got against Atalanta last time out.
