France will be looking to wrap up top spot in Group F at the Women’s World Cup on Wednesday. They will come up against Panama in their final group stage match, with their rivals having already been eliminated from the competition.
It has been a testing group stage campaign for France, but they finally put together a high-quality performance in their second match in Group F. It was a must-win game against Brazil, as a defeat would have left them fighting for their place in the competition. However, they scored late in the match against the South American champions to register a 2-1 win, with Wendie Renard netting the crucial goal.
France will be aware that a victory or a draw will see them progress through to the next round. If they are able to achieve that feat, then it will be the fourth straight time that they have achieved that feat. But, they have won just two of their previous five meetings against nations from the CONCACAF region at the World Cup.
Panama’s journey in the World Cup has already come to an end, as they sit bottom of the group standings, having failed to pick up a point from their opening two matches. In total, they have conceded five goals in matches against Brazil and Jamaica, and they are yet to find the back of the net.
Panama will be hoping to avoid joining an unwanted list, as prior to this year’s edition of the World Cup only Japan and Nigeria had fallen to three straight defeats without scoring. However, it looks challenging to beat against them claiming anything against France.
This will be the first meeting between Panama and France at the Women’s World Cup. It will also be the first time that Panama has come up against a nation from Europe at the competition.
France finally put together a strong performance in their second match against Brazil, and that gives them a strong chance against Panama. We struggle to see anything other than a win for France, and the best value angle from a betting perspective will come in the handicap market.
