Manchester City moved back to the top of the Premier League standings for the first time since the opening weeks of the season in midweek. Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to flex their muscles in the league once again this weekend, as they could open up a gap over the chasing pack.
Premier League Preview
Pep Guardiola would have been delighted with his side’s performance in midweek, as Manchester City moved to the top of the standings with a 3-1 win on the road against Arsenal. It was a professional second half display by the team after a shaky opening half of football. But, City looked stronger defensively in the second half than they have since play resumed after the World Cup.
Erling Haaland once again proved the difference for City, as he scored the game-clinching goal. However, Jack Grealish is looking like a star man for the team in recent weeks, and few players were as impressive as the former Aston Villa captain at the Emirates. He scored the crucial goal to put City 2-1 up, and he could play another starring role against Forest this weekend.
Nottingham Forest’s fortunes have improved in recent weeks, and an unlikely victory on Saturday could see them move up to 12th in the standings. The side from the East Midlands has lost just once in their previous six games, and they have picked up three victories over that same period.
Their home form has been key to their chances of avoiding relegation throughout the season, and they have now gone seven without defeat at the City Ground. Over that run, they have picked up four victories and have been held to three draws. It’s likely that Steve Cooper would take a point if it’s offered to him at this stage, as Forest has a number of key defenders missing for this showdown on Saturday.
Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City Head to Head
City was excellent 6-0 winners in the previous meeting between the sides this season. However, they haven’t completed a league double over Forest since the 1990-91 campaign. The least league meeting between the sides at the City Ground came in the second tier in 2001, with the points shared in a 1-1 draw.
Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City Prediction
The injuries Forest has to contend with for this fixture have taken some of the sting out. Due to their defensive issues, we struggle to see past City winning this game very comfortably.
