NHL: The league gives an update on the status of the current season.

The National Hockey League does not plan to reduce the number of regular-season matches for the 2019/2020 season, despite the coronavirus pandemic, the NHL official website reports.

It is not yet known in what format the tournament will continue. However, the NHL stressed that they are not considering the possibility of reducing the regular season and that the league will not insist on mass tests of hockey players for coronavirus.

The leadership of the National Hockey League admits the possibility of holding the remaining matches of the regular season 2019/2018 with empty arenas without fans, the press service of the league said.

“It’s premature to say what the circumstances of the resumption of the game will be, but we are ready to follow the instructions of the relevant health authorities,” the NHL press release said.

At the moment, the season in the NHL, as in the vast majority of other sports leagues in the world, is stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The outbreak of the disease caused by the new coronavirus was recorded at the end of December 2019 in the most populated city of Central China – the 12 millionth Wuhan. On March 11, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic. According to the latest data, over 349 thousand people have become infected in the world; more than 15 thousand have died.
