Newcastle United remain towards the bottom of the Premier League standings, but this weekend’s fixture against Manchester City will pit two of the wealthiest sides in the English top-flight against one another. But, will there be a predictable outcome?
Premier League Preview
Newcastle United will need a run of positive results over the festive period to improve their chances of staying in the Premier League this season. However, the fixture list hasn’t been the kindest too them, and they face a pre-Christmas trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City on Sunday.
The Magpies are looking doomed at present, as the gap between themselves and safety already stands at three points. That difference could be bigger by the team that we get to New Year’s Day, as the sides around them all have slightly easier fixtures to look forward to. Newcastle have won just once in 16 fixtures this season, and are among the lowest scorers this term. As well as that, they are allowing too many goals in the Premier League this season, as they have the joint-worst defensive record in the top-flight. It could be a case of keeping the score down on Sunday.
Manchester City are hitting their groove in the Premier League at present, and will be looking to extend their advantage at the top of the standings ahead of the busy festive run of fixtures. There’s no denying that City are the most well-equipped side in the Premier League to deal with this stage of the season, as they have more quality than most.
City put in their best performance of the season in their last outing, as they overcame Leeds United to win 7-0 at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne scored twice in the win, while there were also goals for Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez.
Newcastle United vs Manchester City Head to Head
Newcastle have a grim recent record against City, as they have lost 23 of the previous 28 meetings. They have also lost their last three against City, with Pep Guardiola’s side scoring eleven goals during that run of fixtures. Their most recent win at St James’ Park was a 4-3 success in May.
Newcastle United vs Manchester City Prediction
This shouldn’t be the most challenging game to predict this weekend, as City look well positioned to claim a comfortable victory on the road. It could be another big scoreline for City, and we could see them winning 4-0 at St James’ Park.
