There will be exciting international friendly action this weekend, with two nations that have already secured their spots at the EUROs set to clash. Both the Netherlands and Scotland will be looking to build momentum when they collide in Amsterdam on Friday.
It has been an excellent period on the international stage for Scotland, and this fixture against the Netherlands will kick start a busy period for the team. The Scots have secured a second straight appearance at the EUROs after impressing throughout the qualifying campaign. But, the nation will have hopes of building on their showing from the previous edition of the tournament.
Scotland were one of the surprise packages in the qualifying campaign, pushing until the final day for a place at the top of the Group A standings. However, they ultimately needed to settle for second spot in the standings after finishing four points behind Spain. But, Scotland were excellent throughout the campaign, winning five of their eight matches. Defensively, they were also solid after allowing just eight goals.
The Netherlands will also be back at the Euros this summer after settling for second in their Group B campaign. They recorded six wins from their eight matches, with both of their defeats being suffered against France. The Dutch scored 17 goals across their group stage matches, while they had the second-best defensive record after conceding just seven times.
However, their overall form would remain a concern at this stage, as the Dutch have suffered four defeats in ten matches over the last 12 months. But, wins have been more common on their recent record after claiming victories in five of their last six. Furthermore, they have recorded wins in each of their last three, keeping clean sheets in all fixtures over that period.
Scotland are winless in their last five international matches against the Netherlands. The most recent clash between the nations ended in a 2-2 draw in June 2021. That result ended a four-match winning sequence for the Dutch against the Scots.
Both of these nations will be looking to build momentum ahead of the start of the Euros this summer. The record of the Dutch against Scotland could be testing to overlook on Friday, meaning that the preference is for the home victory this week.
