The reigning Italian champions are back in action this weekend, as Napoli bid to reverse their fortunes. They will have the home field advantage for the visit of Hellas Verona, who have lost three of their last five in Serie A.
It has been a really disappointing season to this point for Napoli, as their title defence already appears to be over. The Italian champions are languishing in ninth at this stage of the season, and they are already four points off the Champions League spots after winning just once in their last five matches. However, a return to form this weekend could signal that they may be set for a second half of the season push for a top four finish.
Hellas Verona are currently at the wrong end of the standings, as they sit outside of the bottom three on goal difference. The Italian side have won four of their 22 matches this season, but they have suffered 12 losses already. They come into this round after being beaten in three of their last five, but temporary rest bite was offered last weekend following a draw.
Their away record would be one of their biggest issues ahead of this weekend, as they have landed just two victories in their last 30 on the road against Napoli. Since their last win in January 1983, they have suffered 13 defeats in 18 visits.
Napoli have a problem in the final third of the field this season, as they have failed to score in seven of their last ten matches. That is as many times as they had failed to score in their previous 59 league matches before the start of the sequence.
It could be hard to overlook Napoli’s record in this fixture. They have lost once in their last 13 league matches against Verona, scoring an average of 2.1 goals per game. They have also kept clean sheets in six fixtures over that period. But, each of the last three meetings between the sides in Naples have ended in draws.
Napoli’s struggles in front of goal have hindered them this term, and therefore, under 2.5 goals could be a standout bet this weekend. But, we would expect the home side to claim victory, and it could come in the form of a 1-0 scoreline.
