The reigning Serie A champions will be back in action on Saturday, as they bid to put a poor run of form behind them. Cagliari will be the visitors to Naples, as they go in search of a second straight victory in the Italian top-flight.
Napoli’s heroics from last season look unlikely to be matched, as they have made an incredibly slow start to the 2023-24 campaign. In fact, the Italian giants may instead be in a race for a Champions League spot this term, as they are already one point off fourth-place Roma. A title challenge looks unlikely at this stage, as they are 14 points adrift.
Napoli’s recent form would be a massive concern for the fans, as they come into the weekend after suffering defeats in three of their last four in Serie A. Meanwhile, the reigning champions have lost each of their previous two matches in the Italian top flight. A sign of their issues was evident last weekend, as they were beaten 1-0 on the road by Juventus. However, this could be a golden opportunity to bounce back.
Cagliari find themselves toward the bottom of the standings at this stage of the season, as they have picked up just three wins from their opening 15 matches. The Italian side sit just a point clear of the relegation places in the current standings, but confidence would have been gained following their recent victory in the league.
They battled incredibly well last weekend to record a stunning victory at home against Sassuolo, with each of their efforts in that victory being scored in second half stoppage time. Gianluca Lapadula equalised in the 94th minute, before the points were won five minutes later following Leonardo Pavoletti’s strike.
Napoli boasts a fine record in this fixture, as they have avoided defeat in each of their last five league matches against Cagliari. However, two of the previous three have ended in 1-1 draws. But, this exact fixture last term saw Napoli land a 2-0 success.
The hosts will need to bounce back to form this week following a disappointing run of results in Serie A. We fully expect them to achieve that target, but it may only come in the form of a 1-0 victory.
