Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to put a slow start to the season behind them when they return to action in the Bundesliga on Friday. Gladbach have suffered defeats in two of their previous three matches, which leaves them sitting tenth in the overall standings. However, a return to winning ways this week could lift them into the top half of the standings. 

Defensively, they will need to improve, as they have already allowed 31 goals this term. Only Darmstadt have conceded more goals so far this term than the hosts this weekend. Their poor defensive record once again cost them in their previous match, as they were beaten 3-1 away from home against Union Berlin. Werder Bremen will be the visitors this weekend, as the German side look to record a fifth victory of the campaign. At present, they will still have one eye on the sides below them in the standings, as they sit just four points clear of the drop zone. But, they should at least come into this fixture in revived form after ending a four-game winless run. 

Werder put in an excellent display in their previous match, as they recorded a 2-0 success at home against Augsburg. Niklas Stark opened the scoring in that fixture, before Marvin Ducksch netted the second goal with just under half an hour remaining of the 90.
