Group E looks set to be one of the most open groups in terms of qualification this year, with four of the five teams involved believing that they have a respectable chance of reaching the tournament finals next year. The Czech Republic will be hoping to avoid any shock result when they travel to Moldova on Monday.
It looks set to be a competitive battle between the teams involved in Group E, with just the top two reaching the finals in Germany next year. The Czech Republic could be the outstanding chance to top the group, as they have excelled in EURO qualification since 1996. They have reached the tournament finals in every edition of the EUROs since that showing, and they were quarterfinalists at EURO 2020.
The Czechs were strong in qualifying for the previous edition of the tournament, as they claimed five victories from eight matches. In the process, they scored 13 goals. However, they will need to be defensively solid throughout this upcoming campaign, as they allowed eleven goals in reaching EURO 2020.
Moldova will be looking to make history in qualifying this year, as they bid to reach a major tournament for the first time in their history. Their previous qualifying campaign was sparse in terms of high points, but they did at least claim victory, which remains their only success in ten EURO qualifiers.
Moldova should feel confident coming into this campaign, as they enjoyed an excellent year of results in the Nations League in 2022, as they picked up four wins from six matches. However, they were beaten in successive matches at the end of 2022.
These two national sides have only played on two previous occasions. The Czech Republic were winners on both occasions, with both coming in the qualification campaign for EURO 2004. The most recent meeting was won 5-0 by the Czechs in June 2003.
The Czech Republic has been solid in qualifying campaigns for the EUROs in recent history, and we fully expect them to finish in the top two spots in Group E before the end of the year. We don’t expect them to encounter too many issues on the road on Monday, and we can see them claiming a 3-0 win.
