Marseille would certainly be disappointed to be playing in the Europa Conference League in the second half of the season, as they would have felt that they had a great chance of going deep in the Europa League. The French side eventually finished third in Group E to drop into the Europa Conference League.

They finished two points behind Lazio, who finished second, and were five points off eventual group winners, Galatasaray. Marseille won just once in six outings in the Europa League, with their only victory coming at home against Lokomotiv Moscow. The significant defeat came against Basel, as they were beaten 3-0 on the road. However, that was their only defeat in six Europa Conference League group stage fixtures. They scored an impressive ten goals, but allowed eight. This is a much tougher task, and being defensively solid is essential if they are to take a positive result.
