Manchester United’s place in the top-four in the Premier League is almost certainly wrapped up, but they could close the gap on the league leaders this weekend with a win against Burnley.
Premier League Preview
There is no denying that Manchester United have progressed nicely under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. A second place finish would certainly highlight the strides that have been made at Old Trafford, and they come into this fixture against Burnley as the in-form side in the Premier League. United have won their last four games, and have lost just four games all season. Only Manchester City have lost fewer games than United this term, and the gap between the top two could be reduced to eight points if they pick up a win at Old Trafford on Sunday. United’s last league win came last time out, as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 away from home. Fred pulled the Red Devils level, before Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood ensured that the three points would be going back to Old Trafford.
It could be a nervy final few weeks of the season for Burnley, as they are just one point above Newcastle and just seven clear of the drop zone. Burnley’s recent form has been very disappointing, as they have lost their last two, which includes the recent home defeat that they suffered against Newcastle United. That defeat may have been huge for Newcastle, but in truth, it still looks difficult for the teams in the bottom three to get within touching distance of the Clarets with just seven games of the season remaining. Burnley have won just once in their last six, which would be a concern, but it looks as though they have done just about enough to survive this season.
Manchester United vs Burnley Head To Head
Burnley will take confidence from their last trip to Old Trafford, as they beat United in January last year. However, that is the only win that the Clarets have achieved against United since 2009. The Red Devils won the game earlier in the season 1-0.
Manchester United vs Burnley Prediction
United have been in excellent form over their last six games in the league, and we fully expect them to claim another win this weekend. The Red Devils should have too much quality in the final third for Burnley, and it could be a convincing home win for the hosts.
