Having already qualified, RB Leipzig will look to prove to themselves and others that they belong in the Champions League by going toe-to-toe against last season’s treble winners.

Leipzig have won three times and lost once in their four matches in Group G. Last time the two sides met, Man City won 1-3 away in Germany, with goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Jeremy Doku, giving the defending champions the three points.

They responded to this loss with a double win in the doubleheader against Crvena Zvezda, winning 3-1 at home and 1-2 away from home to seal qualification.

RB Leipzig will look to be competitive against Man City on Tuesday at the Etihad as they look to make up the three-point gap that the champions have opened at the top of the group.

An away win will pull Leipzig level on 12 points with Man City and give them a chance to compete for the top spot.

Pep Guardiola will still be without Kevin De Bruyne who is closing in on a return from a partial muscle tear. The Belgian playmaker has been out of action since August 12, 2023, missing Man City’s start to the season. The 32-year-old is unlikely to be available for the home clash against RB Leipzig.

Manchester City will also be without left-back Sergio Gomez; the 23-year-old fullback is nursing a knock since November 3, 2023.

Guardiola will also be unable to call upon goalkeeper Zack Steffen, with the 28-year-old having undergone knee surgery on June 1, 2023. The shot-stopper is unlikely to be available for selection on Tuesday. 

RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig will be without center-forward Timo Werner, with the striker suffering an adductor pain on November 23, 2023. The 27-year-old will be a late test to determine whether he will make it onto the traveling band for Leipzig.

Attacking midfielder Dani Olma is recovering from an acromioclavicular joint dislocation he suffered on October 29th, 2023. The Spaniard has been sidelined for RB Leipzig since, missing the bulk of the Bundesliga side’s domestic and Champions League campaign.
