Competitive action in France’s top division continues on Sunday evening, as two sides that will desperately need to get in the win column this term will lock horns. Lyon and Clermont Foot both currently sit in the bottom two places in the standings, and the pressure will be on this weekend.
Two of the most disappointing sides in Ligue 1 so far this season will lock horns this weekend, as Lyon and Clermont Foot go in search of their first victories this term. Both sides currently occupy the bottom two spots in the standings, and there will be a need for a massive performance from both sets of players this weekend.
Lyon have been one of the most surprising teams over the opening months of the season, as they have really struggled on the field in their opening eight matches. They are yet to pick up a victory in the league this term, and have suffered five defeats already. Lyon has one of the worst defensive records in the competition, having already allowed 16 goals. Meanwhile, they have found the back of the net on just six occasions.
Clermont Foot will also be in need of a response this weekend, as they have lost five of their opening seven matches in the league. That record sees them sit at the bottom of the standings at this stage, while they have scored the fewest goals of any side in Ligue 1.
Their rut was stalled slightly before the international break, as they picked up a rare point against PSG at the end of September. That performance could give them some much-needed confidence ahead of this showdown on Sunday.
Clermont’s record in this fixture is fairly decent, as they come into the weekend after winning each of their last two against Lyon. Their most recent success was a 2-1 win in May. They also landed victory in this exact fixture last term by a 1-0 scoreline in January.
There will be pressure on both of these teams on Sunday, as both chase their first victory of the season. Neither have shown much defensive backbone over the early months, and the first goal could prove crucial. But, we will be taking a chance on Lyon finally gaining maximum points for the first time to ease the pressure on their shoulders slightly.
